Holy Smokes, kids! Did the Tigers have a sweet Home Opening weekend or what?
On Easter Sunday, Alex Avila cranked a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Detroit a 13-12 victory over Boston!!
The Tigers swept the Red Sox, scoring 26 runs and winning twice in their final
at-bat.
Meanwhile, over in Tampa, the Rays swept the Yankees.
It's the first time the Red Sox and Yankees started the season 0-3 since 1966.
Boston is in trouble. Jonathan Papelbon split for Philly - they acquired closer Andrew Bailey from Oakland. Just before Opening Day Bailey had surgery on his right thumb and isn't expected to return until July. Alfredo Aceves and Mark Melancon are the guys that Bobby Valentine wants to use as closers and both of them blew save opportunities on Sunday!
Do you think the Detroit lineup is getting good wood on the ball?
Take a gander at these numbers from the weekend: Austin Jackson 8-for-14 with 2 RBIs and a .571 average, Miguel Cabrera 5-for-11 with 3 homers, 8 RBIs and a .455 avarage, Prince Fielder 5-for-12 with 2 homers, 3 RBIs and a .417 average, Alex Avila 5-for-12 with 2 homers, 5 RBIs and a .417 average, Jhonny Peralta 5-for-12 with 3 RBIs and a .417 average.
Do you think Prince likes playing with these cats?
