Today is a very special day.
Today, I'm inducting the 20th member into the Hot Baseball Wife Hall of Fame.
Today, the Oakland Athletics begin a weekend series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County of California of the Pacific Rim.
Today, the A's hand the ball to right-hander Brandon McCarthy to resurrect a sinking ship. Oakland has lost 4-in-a-row and need to start winning NOW! They face an uphill battle against the Angels, who won 11 of their final 13 games before the All-Star break.
Today is also Dog Day at the Park.
So, the Oakland Coliseum will be filled with fans and their doggies!
Among the throngs of dog owners at the ballpark there will be one woman who owns a West Highland White Terrier - a Westie - named Hobbes. That woman is also the wife of starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy. That woman is also the 20th member of the Hot Baseball Wife Hall of Fame...
Not since I established the HBWHOF, back in 2007, have I been so intrigued by a baseball wife. Back then, my inspiration for creating the Hot Baseball Wife Hall of Fame was the beautiful and enigmatic Jamie Kotsay - wife of, then, Oakland A's outfielder Mark Kotsay. Today's inductee shares many of the same attributes as Ms. Kotsay. She's a former model. She helps out with the Athletics' charitable events. She's gorgeous...and she keeps a low profile...
The 20th member of the Hot Baseball Wife Hall of Fame is Mrs. Brandon McCarthy - former model Amanda Nelson.
Amanda Nelsen and Brandon McCarthy first met in high school. After graduating, Amanda enrolled in college in Arizona, where the two reconnected. Brandon was pitching for the Texas Rangers when he and Amanda married.
Amanda McCarthy writes a great blog: Stilettos and Cleats which chronicles her life as a baseball wife. Amanda can be followed on TWITTER too: @Mrs_McCarthy32
Congratulations, Amanda, you're a Hall of Famer...
