A BASEBALL-FILLED SATURDAY

The Boston Red Sox just keep on rollin'.
On Saturday, Boston beat Tampa Bay 9-5.
The Red Sox are in 1st place in the AL East with a 1 1/2 game lead over the Yankees.
Jacoby Ellsbury has four homers and nine RBIs over his last 7 games.
Reliever Daniel Bard pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief - his season ERA: 1.99.

I went to the Tigers - White Sox game yesterday.
Hot day - 88 degrees at gametime and it had only dropped one degree when the game ended.
The White Sox beat the Tigers 5-0.
Former Tiger Edwin Jackson shutout his old teammates. Jackson pitched a complete game, allowing 9 hits, 2 walks and adding 2 strikeouts.
Carlos Guillen returned to the Tigers' lineup. He hasn't played since last August.
He went 1-for-4 and played solid defence. The knee looked good.
It was the Negro Leagues Tribute Game at Comerica Park so both teams sported the throwback uniforms of the Detroit Stars and Chicago American Giants...

After the game I was at The Elwood and I met a couple who were married on July 2nd. The bride was wearing a Chicago Cubs jersey with the name 'JUST' and number 72 and the groom was rockin' a White Sox jersey with the name 'MARRIED' and the number 11. Thereby spelling-out JUST MARRIED 7/2/11. They departed for their honeymoon during the All-Star break so they travelled to Kentucky to watch the Louisville Bats in the AAA International League. They watched a few AAA games then, on Friday, hit Great American Ball Park to watch the Cincinnati Reds defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 with a walk-off homer. They took-in the Tigers - White Sox game on Saturday at Comerica. After Detroit, their itinerary consisted of a trip to Toronto to see the Blue Jays, on to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and wrapping it all up with a trip to see the Red Sox play at Fenway Park. Impressive!
Their jerseys were signed, in sharpie, by well-wishers along-the-way and the groom asked me to sign his White Sox jersey. Super-nice couple. I wish them well.
Love that inner-city Chicago rivalry...

In the majors' first scheduled doubleheader in eight years, the Angels defeated the Athletics 4-2 in Game 1. The A's won Game 2 in the bottom of the 10th inning after Scott Sizemore singled with two outs to give the Athletics a 4-3 victory.
