KEEP THE MVP IN THE D...ANOTHER A'S WALK-OFF...THE McCARTHY'S

A nice Saturday afternoon matinee, eh?
Justin Verlander went 7 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and notched 7 Ks.
Miguel Cabrera cranked his 43rd homer, to tie Josh Hamilton for the AL lead. Once, again, Miggy leads all three categories - 43 home runs, 136 RBIs and a .327 batting average - in his pursuit of baseball's elusive Triple Crown.
The Tigers beat the Twins 6-4.
The Rays beat the White Sox 10-4.
That gives Detroit a 2-game lead in the AL Central with 4 games left in the regular season.

The 2012 edition of the Oakland A's just knows how to get it done!
The Athletics were losing 4-2 to the Mariners when Josh Donaldson hit a 2-run shot in the 9th inning to tie the game.
Then, Brandon Moss hit a 3-run dinger in the 10th to give the A's a 7-4 win.
It was Oakland's major league-leading 14th walk-off win!
Keeping with tradition - Brandon Moss got pied for his heroics.

Brandon McCarthy, who had brain surgery on September 5th, has been cleared to play catch and plans to be in uniform for the rest of the A's homestand.
Brandon and his wife, Hot Baseball Wife Hall of Famer, Amanda, on the field to accept Brandon's nomination for the Roberto Clemente Award.

EVERY GAME COUNTS SO I'M ROCKIN' MY LUCKY UNDIES

The Twins beat the Tigers 4-2.
The White Sox beat the Rays 3-1.
Detroit's lead is cut to 1 game.
Quit dickin' around...

Homer Bailey threw a No-No to lead the Reds to a 1-0 win over the Pirates.
Bailey threw 115 pitches, allowing 1 walk and striking out 10 Pittsburgh hitters.

Verlander's on the bump this afternoon...but, just as a safety net, for the remainder of the regular season - I'm rockin' my lucky underwear...

AWESOME

Unfortunately, I was stuck at work all day. Otherwise, I would've been at The Copa.
I love Thursday day games. Today, I missed the best one this season.
Today's game was the last regular season home game of 2012. It was also AWESOME!
It was awesome because the Tigers won 5-4.
It was awesome because it was the Tigers 50th win at home this season.
It was awesome because Doug Fister set an American League record with 9 consecutive strikeouts.
It was awesome because Prince Fielder got a double on a hit that barely escaped the infield.
It was awesome because the Tigers won in the bottom of the 9th.
It was awesome because it kept the Tigers in 1st place in the AL Central.

This is awesome because English model Laura Kate Ainsworth is holding up a bra belonging to HBWHOF fave Holly Peers...

Impressive, don't you agree?

HOW TO MAKE EVERYBODY HAPPY

Justin Verlander pitched and Prince Fielder hit and the Tigers won.

Yep, on Monday night the Tigers beat the Royals 6-2.
On Tuesday, the Indians beat the White Sox 4-3.
That means that Chicago currently has a 1/2 game lead in the AL Central.
If Detroit wins tonight they'll be tied for 1st.
And this, my friends, is...

NO ONE WANTS TO WIN THE AL CENTRAL...SARA JEAN IN SIN CITY

In a battle of Major League douchebags, Jered Weaver came out on top.
Weaver and the Los Angeles Angels defeated A.J. Pierzynski and the Chicago White Sox 4-1 on Sunday. It was Chicago's 5th straight loss.
It was no big deal though, because the Tigers dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Minnesota Twins!
So, with 10 games left to play, Detroit sits 1 game behind Chicago in the AL Central.
Tonight, Detroit begins a 4-game series against Tiger-killer Billy Butler and the Kansas City Royals.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALRIGHT FOR BASEBALL

What can you say about Saturday's Tigers - Twins game?
Everything that could've gone right - did. What a groovy day!
Doug Fister got his first career shutout. Fister tossed a complete game, allowed 7 hits, no runs, no walks and racked-up 7 Ks.
Austin Jackson, Delmon Young and Miguel Cabrera all went YARD.
Miggy's 'tater in the 4th inning tied him with Josh Hamilton for the AL lead in home runs.
Cabrera currently leads all 3 categories on his quest to be the first Triple Crown winner since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Miggy has 42 homers, 131 RBIs and a .332 batting average.
Josh Hamilton is sidelined for this weekend's series at Seattle because of a sinus condition that has caused blurred vision. Meanwhile Cabrera has a doubleheader, today, with a scorching bat!
Detroit beat Minnesota 8-0.
The Tigers began the day 1 1/2 games behind the division-leading Chicago White Sox. After the Tigers were showered and chillin' the Angels handed the White Sox their 4th-straight loss with a 4-2 win.

A must-watch day of baseball today: Game 1 - Scott Diamond vs Max Scherzer at 1:05 PM
Game 2 - P.J. Walters vs Drew Smyly at 7:05 PM

The HBWHOF's day can be summarized in a few photo's...

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY...CHATEAU BOOTY

So, as you all know, Friday night's Tigers - Twins game was postponed by rain and will be played as the bottom half of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Sunday Game 1 will be played at 1:05 PM. Game 2 will be at 7:05 PM.
The HBWHOF will be hitting The Copa for today's game. The game was originally scheduled for 7:05 PM but has been moved-up to 4:05 PM.
MLB scheduling playing havoc with people's lives.

Evidently Jets QB Mark Sanchez is dating Eva Longoria now - so he gets to see this on a regular basis. Here's Eva posing in Jork Weismann’s coffee-table book Asleep at the Château. The book features celebs catching some z's at Los Angeles's legendary hotel The Chateau Marmont...

A GREAT DAY - EXCEPT FOR THE SCORE

Other than the final result, Thursday was an awesome day in Detroit.
The HBWHOF had an 11 AM reservation in the Tiger Club to start my day.
My intention was to fill my belly before watching the Tigers complete a sweep of the Athletics.
I did fill my belly...

The Copa KNOWS how to do it up right. The spread they lay-out upstairs is magnificent.
This, my friends, is the Bloody Mary/Caesar Bar that greets you upon entering the joint...

BP was cancelled for both teams because of the rain but, while we were eating, the sun came out and the tarp came off the field.

This was the concoction that Jenny threw together from that bad-boy of a vodka station...

So, we indulged in all the goodness in the Tiger Club - everything from sushi to coney dogs - then went to our seats at gametime. As soon as we got out of the elevator we ran into Paws...

But, heck, enough about us - the afternoon turned out to be beautiful...

The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, the A's had no desire to leave Motown without a win and the Tigers seemed more than willing to help them out.
Omar Infante made a throwing error that led to Oakland's first run. Avisail Garcia missed a cutoff man, which led to Oakland’s second run. Austin Jackson misjudged a George Kottaras frozen rope to center field which got by him and opened the floodgates for the Oakland offence. The Athletics had 12 hits and beat the Tigers 12-4.
A's left fielder Seth Smith homered, doubled and had 4 RBIs.
Oakland pitching held Miguel Cabrera to a single in four at-bats.
Andy Dirks homered for Detroit.
Luckily, the Royals beat the White Sox 4-3, keeping Chicago's lead in the AL Central to 2 games over Detroit.

I said goodbye to Hammerin' Hank and called it a day...

THE DOMINICAN TODD JONES...KNOCKERS & PINTS

Justin Verlander, Octavio Dotel and Joaquin Benoit pitched 8 innings of shutout baseball - then, the Big Potato came in for one inning of work. Valverde threw 27 pitches and allowed 2 runs.
Thankfully, Miggy homered and Omar Infante drove in 3 runs to help the Tigers beat the A's 6-2.
Later, the Royals beat the White Sox 3-0. Chicago's lead was trimmed to 2 games in the AL Central.

Leyland and Inge discuss the Dominican Todd Jones...

The HBWHOF is headed to The Copa for today's 1:05 PM game - Anibal Sanchez vs Tommy Milone.

I leave you with this Twitter pic of Kelly Brook and Abigail Clancy pulling pints...

MIGGY-BOMBS & BRANDON'S BACK

The BEST hitter in baseball is - surprise - Miguel Cabrera.
On Tuesday night, Miggy went 3-for-4 with 2 homers (the 2nd was a grand slam) and 6 RBIs.
That gives the Big Cat 40 dingers, 129 RBIs, a .333 avarage and a very good shot at the first Triple Crown since Yaz in 1967.
Prince Fielder and Jhonny Peralta also went yard as the Tigers whomped the A's 12-2.
My fave, Max Scherzer, only lasted 2 innings before leaving the game with a dead arm.
An MRI revealed no structural damage. He will be shut-down for a few days.
Max still managed to rack-up 4 Ks to bolster his MLB-leading total to 224 strikeouts.

These were Tuesday night's Tigers' tickets...

Cuz Brandon Inge was back in town but, unfortunately, couldn't play because he's done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

IT'S A GOOD THING THE TIGERS PLAYED A DAY GAME...QUINTIN IS NOT THE BEST BERRY

The White Sox beat the Tigers 5-4 to extend their lead in the AL Central to
3 games.
Each team has 16 games remaining.
Delmon Young celebrated Rosh Hashanah by driving in three runs with a pair of singles.

OMG! This is a flashback from my visit to Wrigley Field on Friday the 13th in July.
Two storms caused a rain delay of 3 hours, 37 minutes. The first pitch wasn't thrown until 10:42 PM. The Pirates, finally, beat the Cubs 3-0 at 1:28 AM this morning!

NOT A GOOD DAY FOR DETROIT...I BET KANYE CAN'T DO THAT

Today, the Tigers go to Chicago to play a day game against the White Sox.
Detroit sits 2 games back.
They're 2 games back because they pissed away a game to Cleveland on Sunday.
Detroit was up 6-5 until Jose Valverde entered the game in the bottom of the 9th.
The Big Potato's line in the final inning: 22 pitches, 3 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs.
Miggy belted a 3-run dinger for his 38th homer and 123rd RBI.
The Tribe won the game 7-6 and the season series 10-8.

The 49ers beat the Lions 27-19 and this went ok...

It looks like all those Kardashian push ups paid off.
Reggie Bush rushed for 172 yards and 2 TDs in a 35-13 Miami spanking of Oakland.
