OFF TO THE BALLGAME

Suddenly, the Oakland A's pitching staff is on fire!
One night after A's hurler Rich Harden shutout Toronto and added
11 strikeouts, Gio Gonzalez pitched 8 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 9 Ks to hand the Blue Jays a 5-1 loss.
Josh Williangham hit a 2-run pinch-hit homer.

The Kansas City Royals beat the Red Sox 9-4.
Tim Wakefield STILL continues his search for the elusive 200th win!

Brandon Inge was demoted to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens in July.
He had fallen out of favour with Tigers' fans.
Inge returned to the Tigers lineup on Saturday night.
In his first at-bat he went YARD!
In his second at-bat he hit a double.
Bill Freehan 2.0...Alex Avila was behind the plate catching his 14th straight game for the Tigers. Avila went 2-for-2 with 3 walks. He's hitting .442 with a .567 on-base percentage in August.
The Tigers beat the Tribe 10-1.
With the win, Detroit took a 3 1/2 game lead over Cleveland in the AL Central.
The HBWHOF is heading over to The Copa this afternnon. The Tigers go for the sweep.

Prior to the game, the Big Potato met Guillermo 'Willie' Hernández.
Hernández helped the Tigers win the 1984 World Series.
That season Willie won both the AL MVP and AL Cy Young Awards.
Jose Valverde just broke Hernández' record of 32 saves in 33 opportunities.
