The Tigers narrowly avoided a sweep at the hands of the Pirates on Sunday.
Justin Verlander pitched a complete game, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and
7 Ks.
Quintin Berry hit a 2-run dinger for his first major league home run.
Detroit beat Pittsburgh 3-2.

Kevin Youkilis is no longer a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Boston traded Youkilis and $5.5 million in cash to the White Sox for reliever Zach Stewart and utilityman Brent Lillibridge.
This makes room for rookie Will Middlebrooks and rids manager Bobby Valentine and owner/CEO/dinks John Henry, Thomas Werner and Larry Lucchino of their whipping boy.
For the White Sox this is a great trade. They have zero production at third base. Youkilis has had a slew of injuries in recent years but a change of scenery might be just what the doctor ordered.
Youkilis' had worn out his welcome in Boston. Management wanted him gone. Middlebrooks is the Red Sox third baseman of the future.
I still think this trade will be good for Chicago.
In the book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game - Youkilis was a prized acquisition nicknamed "Euclis: The Greek God of Walks." He's a 3-time All Star. The cat KNOWS how to play defence and how to get on base. He makes shit happen.
Yesterday, in his final at-bat for the Red Sox, he hit an RBI triple. The trade had already been made, so he was replaced by pinch-runner Nick Punto. As he walked off the field, the Fenway crowd gave him a standing ovation while a video tribute played on the scoreboard. The fans continued to cheer until Youk came out of the dugout for a curtain call.
He will be missed.
