TGIF

It's a rather slow day because there were only three games in the American League on Thursday.
This blog deals with all things Red Sox and Tigers and both teams had the day off.
So, there are a few other matters to discuss...

1) The Minnesota Twins won a game!
The Twins snapped a four-game losing streak, defeating the Kansas City Royals 8-2.

2) You people NEED to start voting for the starters on the 2011 American League All-Star Team. I mean DESERVING starters. Yankees' fans are obviously voting. Check this out...6 of the 8 AL starting position players are, currently, New York Yankees: Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano, Russell Martin and Curtis Granderson are all leading at their respective positions!
The ONLY non-Yankees - Jose Bautista, Josh Hamilton and Michael Young.
I have no problem with Cano, Martin and Granderson - they're having great years.
Granderson, particularly, is taking full advantage of the new Yankee Stadium dimensions and has 17 homers and 41 RBIs.
Jeter's probably going to get in as a sentimental favourite because he's closing in on 3,000 hits and a ticket to the Hall of Fame.
Jose Bautista is a given because he cranked 54 homers last season and, currently, leads the major leagues with 20 homers and 45 runs.
NOW - how the hell can Mark Teixeira be leading over Adrian Gonzalez???
Gonzalez just came to the AL this season. He ONLY leads the American League with 76 hits and 46 RBIs and he's 3rd in batting average at .329.
You KNOW Jeter's going to get the nod...which leaves Cleveland Indians' shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera out in the cold. Cabrera is batting .299 with 10 homers and 39 RBIs. Jeter: .264 with 2 homers and 16 RBIs.
A-Rod...NOPE. He's leading ONLY because the Rays' Evan Longoria missed a month on the DL. Rodriguez is hitting .292 with 9 homers and 31 RBIs. Texas Rangers 3rd baseman Adrian Beltre is hitting .247 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs. C'mon???
Josh Hamilton has been on the DL most of this season - but he will likely start the All-Star Game based on his outstanding 2010 season: ALCS MVP and AL MVP.
I've got a problem with Michael Young. The dude has always been an all-star infielder...but, this season, the Texas Rangers moved him to DH. Sorry, dude, you don't beat-out the best DH ever - Big Papi!
Michael Young: .336, 3 homers, 36 RBIs. David Ortiz: .313, 13 homers, 28 RBIs.

Get with the program, people!
Vote here for the REAL starters.

3) Does anyone read MAXIM anymore?
They lost ALL credibility when they left Kate Upton off their HOT 100 list!
Brutal!! Last year they had Chelsea Handler at #87!!! WTF???
But they did get one thing right. This is MAXIM'S HOMETOWN HOTTIES WINNER - Melanie Iglesias...
