THE SANDMAN WEPT...TOP 10 COLLEGE BOOBS TWITTER ACCOUNTS

Mariano Rivera made his last trip to the mound in Yankee Stadium.
The end of an era.
Yankees skipper Joe Girardi sent Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte out to remove Rivera from the game. What ensued was a flood of emotions, prolonged bear hugs and not a dry eye in the ballpark.

It was one of those special Yankees scenes that will join Lou Gehrig 's farewell speech, Babe Ruth 's last ballpark appearance, Mickey Mantle Day, the first game after Thurman Munson 's death and the finale at the old stadium across 161st Street as moments to cherish and remember.

Max Scherzer earned his 21st win on Wednesday night.

BUCKOS WIN & EMMA GLOVER

"THE BUCKOS WIN! RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!"
After a 21-year absence, the Pirates clinched at least a National League wild card Monday night when they beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1.
The last time Pittsburgh was in the postseason Jim Leyland was managing Barry Bonds and the boys to three straight NL East titles from 1990-92.

National League MVP?

You guys know how much I dig my English Muffins.
So, I really enjoyed Emma Glover receiving her new Chive shirt in the mail...

EXIT SANDMAN

On Sunday, the Yankees honoured Mariano Rivera.
Along with the usual treasure trove of gifts, they brought out all the big guns.
Two new plaques were unveiled in Monument Park. One honouring Jackie Robinson and another commemorating the now permanently retired number that Rivera will be the last player to share with Robinson - #42. Robinson’s wife and daughter, Rachel and Sharon were in attendance.
Also present were George Steinbrenner's family, former Yankees GM Gene Michael, Jeff Nelson, David Cone, John Wetteland, Hideki Matsui, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, former trainer Gene Monahan, Joe Torre and Rivera’s family.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg proclaimed Sunday “Mariano Rivera Day” in the city of New York.
The Yankees played a career video tribute on the scoreboard that ended with the voice of Bob Sheppard, the longtime Yankees’ P.A. announcer who died in 2010, announcing a Rivera appearance. Then Metallica performed “Enter Sandman” and Robert Trujillo, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett gave Rivera a signed guitar.
Badass!

THE METS & THE OLD POLO GROUNDS

I love this pic.
Back in 1963, when Casey Stengel managed Willie Mays and a horribly pathetic version of the New York Mets, these fans clamored for a fly ball at the Polo Grounds.

The Mets have great fans...

DICKEY & ROSIE

Knuckleball maestro R.A. Dickey shutout the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Dickey pitched 7 innings, allowed 4 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks and fired 8 Ks.
He retired the final 11 batters he faced and 15 of the last 16 to help the Blue Jays defeat the Yankees 2-0.

"It was dancing all over the place. That's the one thing with a knuckleballer, if you can get the right grip and get the right arm velocity and speed on it, you can make it do some crazy things. He was able to do that tonight." - Curtis Granderson

Unfortunately, the Blue Jays were eliminated from wild card contention when the Rangers beat the Rays. A very disappointing season.
This team is stacked with talent - but no chemistry.
Hopefully, they can get it together before the 2014 season kicks-in.

I love Fall. I started the day with some Starbucks True North and a walk with Pudge. It's sunny and beautiful - a Rosie Jones sort of day!

PURE CLASS - THE LAST #42

On Sunday night the Red Sox completed a 3-game sweep of the Yankees with a 9-2 victory.
Boston's magic number to clinch the AL East division title is 4 games.
The Yankees trail Boston by 12 1/2 games with 12 games to play and trail the Rays and Texas Rangers by 3 in the wild-card standings, with Cleveland and Baltimore also ahead of them in the race.
Clay Buchholz pitched 6 innings of 2-hit ball and became the first Red Sox pitcher to go 11-0 since Roger Clemens started 14-0 in 1986.
Sunday night was the final game for Mariano Rivera at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox honoured the Yankees closer during a pregame ceremony.
Counting the postseason, Rivera has pitched in 60 games at Fenway Park during his 19-year career and in 127 games against the Red Sox in all.

Mo signed the Fenway Bullpen wall. The inscription reads: "Mariano Rivera. Last to wear #42. Thank you for everything."

Can Anyone Give Me This Cheerleader's Name?

I was just looking through Sports Illustrated's photos of NFL Cheerleaders for Week 1 and I was entranced by this member of the Roar - the Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleading Crew.
I checked their roster but can't match the profile pic to the on-field shots.
Can anyone give me this amazing woman's name?

Oh, ya, baseball...

THINKING ABOUT UNIVERSITY, DINAH WASHINGTON, 'NIGHT TRAIN' LANE & KELLY BROOK

I remember back in university I would often listen to Dinah Washington when I had to write papers.
I love that woman's vocals.
Anyway, Dinah Washington's last husband (her 7th) was Pro Football Hall of Famer Dick 'Night Train' Lane.
'Night Train' was a Detroit Lion from 1960 - 1965.
On a list of  'Top Ten Most Feared Tacklers' #1 is an obvious choice - my favourite player - Dick Butkus. #2 was Dick 'Night Train' Lane. He was the master of what became known as the 'Night Train Necktie' and today's clothesline and face mask penalties were instituted, mainly,  because of his brutal hits!

Kelly Brook's 2014 Calendar has hit the shelves...
