On Monday night, K Commando Max Scherzer pitched 6 1/3 innings and fired
9 strikeouts. Unfortunately he also gave-up 5 runs and took the loss in what ended-up being a 7-3 Red Sox victory.
Dustin Pedroia burnt Scherzer for a 2-run homer. Will Middlebrooks went yard off Phil Coke.
According to Red Sox' sideline reporter Jenny Dell "Pedroia asked [Red Sox announcer] Don Orsillo to yell 'La Luna' after every HR he hits. La Luna = to The Moon"
WTF? I haven't seen this in the 'D'?
There are 23 bars in Boston that have a Budweiser Rally Tap. When the Red Sox score, the tap lights up and BOOM - they start giving away free shit!!
If you've been keeping score at home, the Oakland A's beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in the 15th inning on Monday night.
Jemile Weeks hit a sac fly to score Brandon Inge and deliver the Athletics' 12th walkoff win.
The game lasted 5 hours and 9 minutes.
So, let me get this straight, Snoop Dogg goes to a Rastafarian temple in Jamaica. The High Priest asks him his name. He repies "Snoop Dogg." The Holy Man then says, "'No more. You are the light; you are the lion."
So, now, he has changed his name to Snoop Lion, believes that he's the reincarnation of Bob Marley and is now a reggae artist.
Man, that must've been some killer ganja!

AT THE LAKE
Split from work today and hit the beach.
So, I'm just throwing up a quick post.
As you're well aware, Sunday was the Mister Fister & Jhonny Show.
Doug Fister pitched 8 innings and notched 9 strikeouts and Jhonny Peralta had
2 homers and 4 RBIs to help the Tigers beat the Blue Jays 4-1.
Next up: Three big, bad games against the Red Sox.

TIRED OF TIGERS' TROLLS
Curtis Granderson made a rare misplay in the outfield and the Red Sox beat the Yankees 8-6.
I spend an inordinate amount of time on Twitter trying to be rational with douchebag trolls who overwhelm the Twittersphere with their asshat opinions and negativity.
Yesterday, I had a Twitter exchange with a chick who ripped on someone sporting an Inge shirt at the Rogers Centre.
My question to her was - "Why wouldn't you wear one?"
Inge played in Detroit for 12 seasons and served every role the Tigers asked of him. He was a catcher - the Tigers signed Pudge Rodriguez. Inge moved to the outfield - the Tigers signed Magglio Ordonez. Inge moved to third base - the Tigers signed Miguel Cabrera. Inge tried his hand at DH - the Tigers signed Victor Martinez...and, ultimately, Prince Fielder. Inge was booed, unmercifully, in Detroit and, ultimately lost self-confidence. The fans turned on a good guy and ran him out of town.
Now, the Oakland A's are paying Inge only a prorated portion of the $480,000 minimum - or about $412,000. The Tigers are paying the remainder of the $5,308,743 he was owed when they released him.
So, the A's are paying Brandon Inge $412,000 to hit 11 homers and 48 RBIs.
Better than everyone on the Tigers' roster except Miggy and Prince!
But the troll's argument was, "He's only hitting .206."
Yesterday, the Tigers managed ONE fuckin' run against the most depleted and injury-ravaged pitching staff in baseball - the Blue Jays. They're not exactly the Lords of the Lumber!
In other words - SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID BITCH!
Saturday: The Tigers, who don't need any help hitting, lost 5-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Brandon Inge's new team, the Oakland A's, beat the Orioles 6-1 last night.
Yoenis Cespedes and Chris Carter hit 2-run jacks.
The Atletics are 18-3 (.857) in July. If they can win one more game before the month ends, they'll finish with a better winning percentage than the 1931 club (26-7, .788). I spend an inordinate amount of time on Twitter trying to be rational with douchebag trolls who overwhelm the Twittersphere with their asshat opinions and negativity.

FLACCID TIGERS..ROCK-HARD A'S..GRANDY SLAM..GREINKE AN ANGEL & LONDON OLYMPICS
Miggy & Prince hit back-to-back jacks and then the Tigers went flaccid.
The Blue Jays smoked the Tigers 8-3.
Curtis Granderson cranked an 8th-inning Grand Salami to put the icing on the cake in a 10-3 Yankees' spanking of the Red Sox...
The rock-hard Oakland A's put-up 6 runs in the 9th inning to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 14-9.
Chris Carter and Brandon Hicks went deep for the A's and Seth Smith had 5 RBIs.
Chris Carter and Yoenis Cespedes enjoy Carter's 2-run dinger...
The LA Angels traded shortstop Jean Segura and two Double A pitchers, Ariel Peña and John Hellweg, to the Milwaukee Brewers for former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke.
This happened - Queen Liz jumped out of a chopper at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics...
David Beckham carried the Olympic flame by speedboat to Friday's opening ceremony...

THURSDAY KINDA SUCKED
Ok. You guys already know what went down. Justin Velander had a 3-1 Tigers lead in the 7th inning when Carlos Santana and Travis Hafner hit back-to-back jacks and the Indians scored 4 runs.
Cleveland beat Detroit 5-3.
The White Sox are back in 1st place.
The Indians' victory causes Prince to cramp-up and become physically ill...
The Blue Jays defeated the Athletics 10-4 to end the A's 7-game winning streak.
Brandon Inge and Josh Reddick both went YARD for the A's.
It's Friday, and I went out for drinks last night, so I don't really feel like expounding on these losses.
Here's a picture of a girl who knows that she's all that...

SCHERZER K-KING...INGE & A'S KEEP ROLLIN'...REDDICK GOES SPIDER MONKEY
Today I get to write about two of my favourite cats: Max Scherzer and Brandon Inge.
Max Scherzer pitched 7 innings, allowed 3 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and fired 8 Ks in a 5-3 Tigers win over the Indians.
Scherzer is tied with Justin Velander for 2nd in strikeouts with 142 Ks. Max has thrown 32.1 fewer innings than JV. Seattle's Felix Hernandez leads the majors with 147 Ks.
Everybody knows by now - the Oakland A's laid the beatdown on the Toronto Blue Jays to the tune of 16-0!
Coco Crisp hit 2 'taters, Chris Carter hit a homer, Yoenis Cespedes had 2 doubles and Brandon Inge hit an 2 RBI double.
It was the Blue Jays worst shutout loss ever. Starter Ricky Romero lasted a whole 1 1/3 innings! Toronto even used catcher Jeff Mathis to pitch the 9th inning!!
To make matters worse, the Jays lost catcher J.P. Arencibia after his right hand was broken by a Brandon Inge foul tip.
.
Along with hitting an RBI double, Josh Reddick made a highlight-reel catch when Travis Snider hit a long drive to right field that Reddick snagged by climbing the chain link fence and hanging there until he robbed Snider of a home run: REDDICK GOES ALL SPIDER MONKEY

DUNN...PRINCE THE SPEEDSTER...BOB MELVIN - MANAGER OF THE YEAR?
The way Josh Hamilton was lightin' it up at the beginning of the season, who would have predicted that, in July, Adam Dunn would lead the majors with 30 homers?
Dunn went 3-for-5 with a double, homer and 4 RBIs to help the White Sox whollop the Twins 11-4.
The Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2.
Miguel Cabrera hit a 2-run dinger for his 81st legue-leading RBI (tied with Josh Hamilton).
Prince Fielder showed some good range when he cut-off a throw to home plate and threw to Cabrera at third, catching Michael Brantley in a rundown. Fielder then hustled all the way across the diamond to back up the play, taking a return throw from shortstop Jhonny Peralta on the run and tagged out Brantley, who was sliding in head first.
If you were keeping score at home that putout was ruled 9-3-5-6-3...
The red-hot Oakland A's beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2.
Aussie hurler Travis Blackley got the 'W'. Blackley went 7 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and notched 8 Ks.
Thus far, the A's are 15-2 in July!
I'm thinkin' A's skipper Bob Melvin is a strong candidate for manager of the year.
Yesterday was a great day to be out on the links.
Here's HBWHOFer Kim DeJesus and her buddies at an ALS Tourney...

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR
So, this happened...
The Yankees sent pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar to the Mariners in exchange for future Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki and some cash.
Suzuki simply went to the opposing clubhouse since New York was visiting Seattle for a 3-game series.
Ichiro took over Nick Swisher's (DL) spot in right field. He batted 8th - the first time Suzuki has started a game batting anywhere other than the top three spots in the lineup.
Suzuki went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in his Yankees debut and the Yankees beat the Mariners 4-1.
The Detroit Tigers picked-up infielder Omar Infante and starter Anibal Sanchez from the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins received the Tigers' top prospect, pitcher Jacob Turner, as well as catching prospect Rob Brantly and LHP Brian Flynn. Detroit, also, managed to get a 1st-round draft pick in a swap of selections from last week's Competitive Balance Lottery.
Detroit had no choice but to acquire a decent defensive second baseman THAT CAN HIT.
If the Tigers want to make a legit run for the playoffs they can't slide by with Ryan Raburn (.172), Ramon Santiago (.216) and Danny Worth (.215).
Former Tiger Infante (2002 - 07) is packin' a .287 batting average with 23 doubles, 8 homers, 33 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
I don't know how thrilled I am about giving up Jacob Turner.
Turner's supposed to report to the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs.
We shall see how that arm pans out.

TIGERS & A'S SWEEP...ALL IS RIGHT IN THE BASEBALL WORLD
Before Sunday's Tigers-White Sox game, my buddy took this pic at Nemo's.
He wanted me to post it on the HBWHOF...
Oh, baby, the Detroit Tigers swept the Chicago White Sox.
Chicago, now, sits 1 1/2 games back of Detroit in the AL Central.
On Sunday, Tigers' hurler Jacob Turner got his first big league win. Turner went 5 1/3 innings and left the game with a 6-3 Tigers lead.
Miguel Cabrera homered twice, including a monster-shot into the camera platform in centerfield that was estimated at 457 feet. Miggy's second dinger was his 300th career homer!
When you're swattin' homers in Comerica Park - YOU ARE A POWER RANGER! The Copa is a spacious ballpark. This ain't Yankee Stadium.
According to STATS, LLC. Cabrera was 29 years, 95 days old Sunday. When Hank Aaron was that age, he had 309 home runs.
Quintin Berry and Brennan Boesch also homered to help the Tigers beat the White Sox 6-4.
It was a great day for baseball.
The Oakland A's swept their 4-game series against the New York Yankees!
Oakland has become the home of the Gatorade shower and pie in the face.
On Sunday, the Yankees had a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 9th. Seth Smith hit a homer off closer Rafael Soriano to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Coco Crisp singled home the winning run in the 12th and the A's rallied from
4 runs down to whomp the Yankees 5-4 and complete a 4-game sweep.
Oakland is 14-2 in July with a league-leading 11 walk-off wins!!
Yankees payroll - $197,962,289.
A's payroll - $55,372,500.
Brandon Inge and Kurt Suzuki went DEEP too!

HOF INDUCTION DAY...TIGERS IN 1ST...INGE GOES DEEP
Congratulations to Barry Larkin and the late, great Ron Santo who will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today.
Also, congrats to Tim McCarver and Bob Elliott who were honoured on Saturday.
McCarver received the Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions in broadcasting.
If you're a Canuck, like me, you're probably familiar with Bob Elliot's excellent baseball writing. Elliott plies his trade at the Toronto Sun and received the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for sports writing.
The Detroit Tigers are in 1st place in the AL Central. Hooray!
Rick Porcello did his best Justin Verlander impression on Saturday.
Ricky went 8 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, didn't walk a soul and fired
4 strikeouts.
Brennan Boesch hit a 3-run homer and Austin Jackson had 4 RBIs to help the Tigers whomp the White Sox 7-1.
Guys! Just as some douchebag Tweeted me about Inge being booed - as part of his justification for douchebags booing Ryan Raburn AT HOME - Brandon Inge walked to the plate in the 8th inning and went YARD on the first pitch from Phil Hughes to give the A's a 2-1 win over the New York Yankees.
Yoenis Cespedes also homered in the 4th inning.
A's starter Jarrod Parker went 8 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and struck out 5 Yankees' hitters.
If you're keeping score at home, the A's have taken the first 3 games and can complete a 4-game sweep of the Yankees today.
The Athletics have won 13 of their last 15 to climb into a tie with the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles for the final AL wild card spot.
Another pic I took a fancy to - Cintia Dicker in the Brazil edition of Status Magazine...

TIGERS ON THE CUSP...A'S ARE WALK-OFF KINGS!
The Tigers sit a half-game behind the White Sox, for 1st-place, in the AL Central.
Detroit beat Chicago 4-2 on Friday night.
Justin Verlander pitched 8 innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and notched
6 Ks.
Jake Peavy had a 2-0 Chicago lead but got burnt for 5 hits and 3 runs in the 3rd inning.
Peavy served-up a lead-off double to Jhonny Peralta. Ramon Santiago singled. Austin Jackson hit into a double play. Peavy hit Quintin Berry with a pitch.
Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder hit RBI singles. Delmon Young hit an RBI double. It was 3-2 Tigers. That's all Verlander would need.
Gordon Beckham checks his swing on a Verlander 100 mph heater...
Detroit will have their hands full tonight - Chris Sale (11-2, 2.11 ERA) is on the hill for the White Sox vs Rick Porcello.
Guys! Everyone needs to pay attention to what's happening in Oakland.
Athletics' outfielder Josh Reddick has become the master of delivering a Gatorade shower & pie in the face!
That's because the A's lead the majors with 10 walk-off wins!
They did it again, last night, beating the Yankees 3-2!!
Brandon Moss hit an RBI single to drive in Yoenis Cespedes for the win.
Oakland has won the first two in a 4-game series against New York.
The A's sit a half-game out of a wild-card spot in the American League.
Last night, Oakland rookie pitcher Tommy Milone went 7 shutout innings, giving-up 6 hits and striking out 10 Yankees hitters.
Cliff Pennington was placed on the disabled list with left elbow tendinitis and Eric Sogard was brought up from Triple-A Sacramento to fill Pennington's roster spot.
The HBWHOF is a fan of Eric's wife - Kaycee Sogard.
Here's Eric & Kaycee watching the fireworks from the Sacramento River Cats' dugout...

BIG WEEKEND SERIES ON TAP!
Surprise! Surprise! The Detroit Tigers are 1 1/2 games behind the 1st-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
The Tigers took 3-out-of-4 after beating the LA Angels 5-1 yesterday.
K-Commando Max Scherzer went 7 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 4 walks and fired 9 Ks.
Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila went DEEP.
Angels' rookie phenom Mike Trout struck out swinging in his first two at-bats against Scherzer - his third time up he went YARD!
The Trout 'tater was just a tiny dent in the armour.
The Tigers have won 10 of their last 12 games! This weekend they can take possession of first place. They begin a 3-game series against the White Sox, tonight, with their ace on the hill: Justin Verlander vs Jake Peavy at 7:05 PM.
I just like this pic of Mila Kunis from Interview...

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY
More rain in the Windy City!
The Cubs beat the Miami Marlins 5-1 after heavy rain ended the game in the 8th inning.
Starlin Castro homered for Chicago and Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis presented the Cubs' starting lineup, shared pizza with Ryan Dempster and threw out the first pitch.
The Red Sox smoked the White Sox 10-1.
Cody Ross hit two 3-run homers and Adrian Gonzalez hit a solo dinger and
4 RBIs.
Doug Fister pitched 8 innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and fired 10 Ks.
Raburn, Cabrera, Fielder, Young and Boesch all joined-in on the RBI party.

This guy's got some mad wheels. He turned it on for a stand-up triple in the 9th inning...
The HBWHOF is headed to The Copa for today's 1:05 PM game between the Tigers and Angels.
I'm going early to watch Trout & Trumbo hit some bombs during BP. It's raining right now. Hopefully it clears up for the ballgame.
